March Update
We’ve had another wonderfully busy and exciting month in Reception!
At the start of the month, we celebrated World Book Day in style. The children came dressed as their favourite characters and stayed in role throughout the day, even answering the register to their character name! One of the highlights was making Gruffalo crumble together – a fantastic way to bring the well-loved story to life. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience whilst also developing their measuring, peeling and cutting skills. They were very proud of their tasty creation!
We were also lucky to receive a visit from our local Police Community Officers. The children learned all about how they help to keep us safe in our community and were very engaged, asking thoughtful questions. A particular highlight was trying on parts of the police uniform, which created lots of excitement!
Our trip to the Skyla Nature Reserve was a real highlight of the month. The children spent a full day outdoors, exploring the woodland and learning about the creatures that live there. They showed great creativity when building fairy villages using natural materials, and toasting marshmallows around the fire was a definite favourite! We have also made the most of the recent sunshine with an early spring walk, looking carefully for the first signs of the new season.
In our Read Write Inc. lessons, the children have been working hard on their letter formation and are showing increased care and confidence in their writing. It is lovely to see the pride they take in their work. Their reading confidence and fluency continues to develop and thank you for all the practise you do at home – it makes a real difference!
Drawing Club continues to flourish, with the children developing their skills by adding more detail to their drawings and becoming increasingly adventurous with their captions. This month, we particularly enjoyed Jack and the Beanstalk and Captain Pugwash. It has been wonderful to see the children’s confidence grow as they share their ideas.
In maths, our number work has focused on doubling and exploring different ways to make numbers up to 10. The children have been using their fingers, tens frames, and dice frames to support their understanding and are becoming more confident with these key skills. We have also been exploring length and height through measuring objects and ourselves with cubes. The children are developing their counting skills and learning about the pattern of the number system, counting past 20.
During provision, the children have really enjoyed engaging in imaginative play this month. They have been busy creating exciting scenarios using the fire engine toys, fairy house and figures, and going on adventures with the rocket ship. It has been wonderful to see their creativity and storytelling develop as they take on different roles. Alongside this, the children have shown great teamwork, working collaboratively to build and create using the foam bricks – the class train was a real highlight! They shared ideas, took turns, and worked together brilliantly to bring their creations to life.
We are incredibly proud of all the children for their hard work and enthusiasm this month. It was also lovely to catch up with you all at our Stay and Play session and during our parent consultation meetings. Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
