November Update
This half term, we’ve been delving into multiplication and division in maths. We worked together to create our own "steps to success," which has helped us feel more confident with these essential skills. We’ve also realised just how much we rely on our times tables in maths – extra practice has definitely paid off, helping us across all areas of our work so far this year.
In English, we’ve been studying information texts. Our model text was about Hidden Figures – four incredible black women who played a crucial role in the Space Race. Their resilience and contributions really inspired us. We created our own "toolkit" for writing information texts, focusing on the key features, and used our "box-it-up" strategy to analyse the structure before writing our own texts. We wrote about the scientists who helped us understand gravity: Isaac Newton, Galileo Galilei and Ibn al-Haytham. Ask your child to share what they’ve learned about these remarkable individuals!
In music, we’ve been exploring rhythm and pace through Adele’s Make You Feel My Love. We’ve focused on how tempo and rhythm shape the mood of the song, and the students have been enjoying experimenting with different beats.
In science, we’ve been investigating forces like friction, gravity, air resistance, and water resistance, and how they impact movement. The students have had hands-on experience exploring these forces and learning about the key scientists who helped us understand them. Has your child shown you friction in action by putting two books together? Next week, we’ll be planning an investigation to explore how friction varies with different surfaces. We’re also excited to welcome Drax this term to help us dive deeper into forces with more hands-on activities.
In PE, we’ve been working on football skills and improving our fitness. The students have been building teamwork, coordination and stamina, all while having fun on the field. For PE, we’re outside come rain or shine, so if your child would like to bring a spare pair of shoes, they’re welcome to! Coats are also essential on wet days to keep everyone comfortable and dry.
In computing, we’ve been looking at how computing systems and networks work, with a particular focus on communication and collaboration. The students have been learning how devices and networks help us connect and share information in a safe way. A big thank you to everyone who joined us for Parents' Evening. It’s always such a pleasure to share the progress your children are making and to discuss ways we can continue working together to help them reach their full potential. Your support and involvement are invaluable.
