March Update
Wow — what a quick and jam-packed term it has been in Year 1/2! The weeks have truly flown by, and the children have been busy with lots of exciting learning across all subjects.
In Maths, the children have been exploring measurement. They have been learning to use centimetres (cm) and metres (m), as well as comparing different lengths. They have absolutely loved going around the classroom and school to find and measure objects — turning their learning into a fun, hands-on experience! More recently, the children have begun learning about statistics. They have really enjoyed collecting data from their peers, asking questions, and presenting their findings in tables.
In English and Phonics, the children continue to make fantastic progress. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow, not only in their phonics knowledge but also in their ability to understand texts. Their inference and comprehension skills are improving greatly, and they are becoming more thoughtful and independent readers.
Our Science learning took us on an exciting school trip to the Skylark Centre. The day was full of adventure and curiosity — from den building and exploring on a nature walk, to asking thoughtful questions about the world around them. A definite highlight for many was enjoying marshmallows around the campfire!
In History, the children have been fascinated by learning about explorers, particularly Amelia Earhart. They have explored why she is still significant today and have enjoyed discussing her achievements and bravery.
In Design and Technology (DT), the children have been busy creating their own Easter finger puppets. They have designed, made, and decorated their puppets with great care, showing creativity and developing their cutting, joining, and finishing skills. It has been lovely to see their ideas come to life!
In Art, the children are learning about landscapes and the different features that make them, such as the foreground, middle ground, and background. They are using these skills to create their own drawings of the school, thinking carefully about perspective and detail.
In Learning for Life, the children have been exploring who is in our community and the important roles people play to help us. This has led to some thoughtful discussions about how we can all contribute positively to our community.
We also enjoyed a fantastic Comic Relief day! It was wonderful to see the children dressed up in such funny and creative ways — their outfits and hairstyles were truly marvellous, and they showed great confidence throughout the day.
Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend Parents’ Evening. It was so lovely to speak with you and share the children’s progress and achievements.
A quick reminder about Doodle: please ensure your child is completing their assignments regularly. These tasks are designed to support and consolidate their learning, and we are seeing an increase in children needing to attend Doodle Club.
Finally, I hope you all have a wonderful and restful Easter break, filled with lots of relaxation and family time. I look forward to welcoming the children back for another exciting term!
