June Update
Wow - what a scorcher it has been this week! However, it hasn’t stopped us working hard and keeping busy!
As we look ahead to the last few weeks of the Summer Term, we will be consolidating our learning and securing key skills in preparation for the children moving up to their next year group.
In English, we have been writing information texts based on the pangolin. We worked hard to structure our texts correctly in a non-chronological, informative way, using headings and subheadings to organise our writing. We also included a range of adverbials and sentence additions and contrasts. Following on from this, we have been working hard to write adventure stories, where we have continued developing our skills in building tension, creating atmosphere and keeping the reader engaged. We will continue to focus on descriptive language, sentence structure and punctuation to bring our narratives to life.
In Maths, we will be continuing to build confidence and fluency across key areas (e.g. place value, times tables and the four operations) in preparation for the children’s next year group. We have also been learning about shape, including angles, and will be moving on to position and direction, followed by statistics.
In Geography, we are currently learning about rivers. We created our own fantastic models to demonstrate the parts of a river and how they are formed. We have looked at maps of the UK and around the world to locate some of the most famous rivers, and we will be exploring the different ways rivers are used. We will also be learning about the rivers closest to Cliffe - the River Ouse and the River Aire.
In Science, we will continue our learning on states of matter. We will be identifying and comparing solids, liquids and gases, exploring how materials can change state through heating and cooling, and investigating processes such as melting, freezing, evaporation and condensation. We have also looked at the part played by evaporation and condensation in the water cycle, which has linked nicely to our river topic too!
In Art, we have been working on our drawing skills, focusing closely on proportion, perspective and shading, and creating some beautiful pieces.
In PE, we have taken full advantage of the improved weather by working on our running, jumping and throwing skills to prepare us for Sports Day (which was a roaring success!), as well as learning how to play rounders.
We look forward to spending our final few weeks together as a Year 3/4 class, celebrating all the progress the children have made this year and continuing to make new memories.
As always, thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Mrs Jamieson and Mrs Capewell
